What are Macronutrients (Macros)?

Every calorie you consume belongs to one of three primary organic structures: Carbohydrates, Proteins, or Fats (liquids like alcohol also provide energy, though they are not metabolic macronutrients). These are called "macronutrients" because the human body needs them in large gram quantities to maintain metabolic activity.
